HOW TO BUILD A LAW FIRM: A law firm is a business or organisation that is engaged in the practice of law. A law firm is not only limited to the structure, furniture and fittings. A law firm is complete when the structure, furniture and fittings are on ground, qualified lawyer or lawyers available there and a good client base .

To build a law firm, you need an office space, no matter how small, which may be in your home or a rented office space . you also need a client base. Law firm is like other business organisations. No customer, no business. same applies to a law firm in which no client, no business. Therefore in considering how to put up a law firm, you should more importantly learn the law firm marketing strategies. This will enable you build your client base which is of utmost important in the successful practice of law.

Also note that a good product sells itself. To successfully build and develop a law firm, you must be experienced. You must have what to offer to the clients, you must have a solution to their legal problems, you must have a good interpersonal relationship, you must have the necessary ethics. You must build strong confidence in your client. Make your clients have confidence in you.

There are various successful ways of  building a law firm otherwise called a law firm building techniques and strategies that every lawyer must be abreast with. Some of them are;

  1. Think and plan within yourself:   The first thing you should do if you are aspiring to build your own law firm is to think about what it is that you really want out of your law firm. How busy you want it to be, the quality of services you want to be rendering to your clients, the type of clients you want etc. It is advised that you note down these questions and many more questions and provide answers to them, note down your ideas and dreams for your law firm before you proceed. Note that these your dreams are not what will start coming into reality immediately the law firm starts but over time.
  2. Take out sometime including the cost to learn the marketing strategies: It is not enough to just get an office space, furnish it and the start up. A law firm is a serious business and you must learn the necessary marketing strategies to enable you secure few good paying clients otherwise the fast opened law firm will be fast closed down. So i recommend you invest into learning the fundamental marketing strategies.
  3. You need to specialize in one practice area: Do not be a jack of all trade and a master of none. there is a benefit in specialization. Specialize in a particular area of law. This will make it easier for even your fellow lawyers to refer clients who are looking for an expert in you area of expertise. Gone are the days when a single lawyer is seeing practicing in all the various fields of law, oil and gas, taxation, corporate practice, civil and criminal litigation, energy, environmental law, labour law etc. Try and choose one and specialise. Clients prefer to go to lawyers who are specialized in a particular area of practice .
  4. Note down your procedures: In learning how to build a law firm, It is very important to record your procedures. This will make it easier for you to employ someone to assist you. when the employee comes, he or she only need to go through your record of procedure to learn how, when and why you do things. This will lessen the burden of you starting from the scratch to teach the employee.
  5. Avoid distraction while at work: You must learn to be focused while working. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by your mobile phones either by answering calls, reading and replying messages etc. if it means hiring someone to answer you phone calls, you can do that.
  6. Be attentive to the question and complaints of your clients. one client being treated well attracts other clients. Clients are like ordinary customers. they enjoy being treated with respect and given sense of importance.
